VICTORIA’S AQUATIC STAR BECOMES CHAMPIONSHIPS MASCOT

Victoria’s most famous native animal, the Little Penguin, will be the mascot for the 12th FINA World Championships, being staged in Melbourne next year.

Premier Steve Bracks today announced the new mascot, joining 175 school children and reigning Olympic and World Champion Grant Hackett at Melbourne’s Federation Square to re-create the world-famous Phillip Island penguin parade.

“I couldn’t imagine a better choice as the mascot for the 12th FINA World Championships,” Mr Bracks said.

“Around the world the Little Penguin is synonymous with Victoria and, like all the athletes competing in Melbourne next March, is right at home in the water.
