PENNY PROVES POPULAR PICK SAYS BEDDISON

The 2007 World Swimming Championships Chairman, Tony Beddison has announced the winner of the hunt to find a name for the Penguin mascot – Penny The Penguin.

And "Penny" is ready to prowl the pool deck next March.

Penny, who wasted no time cuddling up to recently retired Australian swim star Giaan Rooney, will be the face of Melbourne's biggest water sport event.

And the choice of name has won 11-year-old Herald Sun reader Isabella, of Reservoir, a prize package, including Speedo gear and the chance to meet pool star Grant Hackett.

The Herald Sun's What's My Name? competition fielded more than 1800 entries. Mr. Beddison said the number of entries showed the high level of interest in the championships.
