Artist, Robert Dickerson was appointed artist-in-residence at Moonee Valley Race Club. Tony Beddison, chairman of Moonee Valley’s art committee, said the idea came from the fact that Moonee Valley has a unique and rich history linked with art as well as a substantial collection.
The race club invited six artists to nominate for the residency with the eventual appointee being chosen on the basis that will enhance the image of equine art in Australia.
The artist in residence is required to respond to some aspect of racing in a major work. Spanning a broad range, it may involve horses, jockeys, personalities, stewards, the course or a particular race.
